Learning The "PSA Way"
The "PSA Way" is an eclectic approach using the best
from current and past educational theories including: Thematic
Units, Multiple
Intelligence,
Traditional,
Whole
and Small Cooperative Group Instruction and
Developmentally
Appropriate Curriculum.

- Thematic Units
- An interdisciplinary teaching approach that organizes instruction
on a monthly basis and delivers curriculum through a broad range
of topics, e.g., Community, Me, Myself & Family, Astronomy
and Famous People.
- Multiple
Intelligence
- Howard Gardner's research at Harvard University has identified
seven intelligences or ways of learning and knowing, based on
the premise that not all students learn the same way.
They are: (1) Verbal/Linguistic, (2) Logical, Mathematical,
(3) Visual/Spatial, (4) Musical/Rhythmic, (5) Interpersonal
(6) Intrapersonal and (7) Body/Kinesthetic.
- Traditional
- While some activities at PSA are student-directed, many of our activities
are teacher-directed, including circle time, language, math, art, science and
social studies. PSA recognizes a child's need for consistency and
structure throughout the day.
-
Whole and Small
Cooperative Group Instruction
- While brainstorming for a story is perfect for whole-group instruction,
reading and math may be more suitable for small-group instruction.
-
Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum
- The PSA staff understands the range of abilities children have at various
ages and provides a curriculum that meets the needs and interests of its
students.
